	Braswell, Zadock estate 1852, Edgecombe County Estate Records, NC 
State Archives CR.037.508.18.  DOWER land laid off for Mary Braswell, 
widow of Zadock Braswell, dec’d. Containing 100 acres of land as 
devised to her by the will of said Zadock, beginning at a white oak on 
the run of Mercer’s Mill Branch then south 10 west to William D. 
Mercer’s line then along said line to David Wells’ line then along said 
line to a (blank) then north 10 east to the run of said branch then 
down the various courses of said branch to the beginning, signed 1 Nov. 
1852 and submitted to Nov. Ct. 1852, Jeremiah Batts, Jacob (            
), John Whitehead.  PETITION (for division of land) by Mary Braswell, 
Zadock R. Braswell, Baker W. Braswell, Mary P. Braswell, Lucinda 
Braswell, and Frances Braswell vs. Spencer (S) Braswell, states that 
Zadock Braswell, late of Edgecombe Co. has recently died  and his will 
was proved at “May Term last”and devised all his land to plaintiffs and 
defendant, subject to life estate of widow, Mary, Aug. CT. 1852; Mary’s 
life estate was for 100 acres, not clear if this was total of land or 
not; John J. Williams, Jacob Proctor, John Whitehead, John Draughon and 
Jeremiah Batts appointed commissioners to divide land into six equal 
parts.
