I William Cane of Edgecombe County... being of sound & perfect memory thanks be given unto god... I give & recommend my soul unto the hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian decent manner... nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again... Item I give & bequeath unto my beloved son (Eli Cane) all my cattle on the south side of (Neu??); Item I give & bequeath unto my loving son(A?? Cane) my plantation whereon I now live... half the land belonging to the tract ( ) the marriage of his mother and one bed & pott and one gray mare (about ? Years old); item I give & bequeath to my loving son William Cane the other half of land whereon I now live; the remainder of my estate to my loving wife during her life and then to be equally divided among my loving children not before mentioned and I constitute & ordain my loving wife Sarah Cane & Edward Moore executors, signed William Cane, wit William Ricks, (Thomas Whitfield), (Jacob Barnes). Proved by oath of William Ricks and Thos Whitfield and Sarah Cane qualified as executrix. NOTE: NAMES APPEAR TO BE CANE BUT COULD POSSIBLY BE LANE. Will Book A, page 59.
