He stated that William’s widow, Lucinda Clark had renounced in his favor. The estate was valued at (either $500 or $5000) dollars. Heirs were Lucinda, widow of William, two sisters Betsy Brinn and Lucy Clark of full age and living in this county, and the children of Frank Clark and Henry Clark, two deceased brothers, infants and living in this county. Application was dated 8 Nov. 1870 and signed “Josh Killebrew”. DOWER FOR LUCINDA CLARK. On Dec. 9, 1872 commissioners laid off dower land for Lucinda Clark, widow of William Clark. Beginning at Lucinda Clark and John Griffin corner and along Lucinda Clark’s line east to a stake and then along said Clark line south to (Joneses) and Clark corner to a small tree then east along the line of (pines) to the woods and then south along the (fense) to the X (fense) and then west down to the ditch and then south along the ditch to Clark & Griffin corner and then along Griffins line west to a stake and then north to beginning, containing 13 acres, signed A.B. Nobles, J.C. Pender, A.B. Killebrew, W.T. Gray, W.H. (Talstos). ANSWER OF COOPER WELLS, regarding suit of Lucinda Clark vs John Griffin and wife and others. Cooper Wells, guardian of Mary F. Wells, Edny Ann Clark, Wm. (Henry) Clark, Amanda Clark and Margaret Clark. Cooper stated 1- That the plaintiff as he is advised is entitled to dower in the land specified in the petition, 2- That the a(allegations) in petition are true, so far as he is informed & believes. he therefore submits to such judgement as the court may make. Signed Cooper Wells (X), wit. ( ). COMPLAINT OF LUCINDA CLARK VS JOHN GRIFFIN & WIFE LUCY, ISAAC BRINN & WIFE BETSY, COOPER WELLS & WIFE MARY F., EDNY ANN CLARK, WILLIAM H. CLARK, AMANDA CLARK AND MARGARET CLARK. The plaintiff alleges that 1- William Clark of said county died intestate a few years ago leaving him surviving the plaintiff who is his widow and no children. 2- That said intestate was seized and possessed at his death an undivided interest of a small tract of land situate in said county and that since his death a portion thereof has been allotted to his heirs adjoining the lands of Lucy Griffin and others and containing 53 acres. 3- That plaintiff is entitled to dower in said lands. 4- That the heirs of said intestate are the defendants, Lucy Griffin, wife of the defendant, John Griffin, Betsy Brinn, wife of the defendant Isaac W. Brinn, who are his sisters, the defendants Mary F. Wells, wife of the defendant Cooper Wells & Edny Ann Clark who are the children of Frank Clark, a brother of the intestate who died before him and the defendants William (Henry) Clark, Amanda Clark and Margaret Clark who are children of Henry Clark, a brother of the intestate who died before him the last five of whom are infants without guardian.
