Edgecombe County, NC - Wills - Harrell, Elisha - 1866 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jo Webb State of North Carolina Edgecombe County Recorded Will Book B Page 306 Date of Will 1866 I Elisha Harrell of the County of Edgecombe and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory, but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows: ITEM 1: My executor hereinafter named shall pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts to whosoever I may owe at the time of my death out of the monies that my first come into his hands as a part of my estate. ITEM 2: I lend to my wife Ann Eliza Harrell 290 acres of land during her natural life or widowhood; at the death or marriage of my said wife, I give and bequeath unto my four youngest children Arsmithia Harrell, R. Perlina Harrell, Rebecca Harrell and Louiza Harrell the above named 290 acres of land known as follows: 1st the home tract covered by a deed from John Harrell which includes my residence at this time. 2nd Containing 100 acres 2 tract known as the Bar land, covered by a deed from William Hines containing 100 acres. 3rd Tract known as the Odem place, covered by a deed from William Wooten, containing 90 acres and if either or all of the above named girls die without leaving a lawful heir, my will and desire is that the said land shall be equally divided between my two sons, John Harrell a nd Jesse Harrell. ITEM 3: I give and bequeath to my wife Ann Eliza Harrell all the provisions on hand at my death viz: Bacon, lard, corn, fodder, wheat, oats, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes peas, flour, one mare named Bett one mule named Gin, one buggy and harness, cart and gear, two cart plow, two fulte plows and gear for the same (her choice), two shovels, four weeding hoes, one grub hoe, two axes, 15 head of oxes her choice, two cows and calves, her choice, four ewes and lambs, her choice, two pots and all the kitchen furniture. ITEM 4: I lend unto my said wife Ann Eliza four feather beds and necessary furniture during her natural life or widowhood and at her death or marriage I give the above named beds and furniture to my four youngest daughters namely, Arsmithie, R. Perlina, Rebecca and Louiza to be their absolute property forever. I also lend unto my said wife two chest, two trunks and 2 tables her choice during her natural life or widowhood, then to my four daughters above named. ITEM 5: I give and bequeath to John Harrell and Jesse Harrell, a certain tract or parcel of land known as the Farror land covered by a deed from Jenz Farrow, containing 150 acres to be equally divided between the above named parties to be their absolute property forever. ITEM 6: I give and bequeath to my sons William Harrell $5.00, to Peter Harrell $5.00. To Watson Harrell $5.00, to Dave Harrell $5.00 to be paid by my executor hereinafter named. ITEM 7: My will and desire is that all the residue of my estate that is not given away in this will shall be sold by my executor and after paying my just debts and legacies, the residue of my estate to be equally divided between John Harrell, Jesse Harrell, Arsmithie Harrell, P. Perlina Harrell, Rebecca Harrell and Luiza Harrell. I also constitute and appoint my son John Harrell guardian for my four children by giving bond and security to the County. Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son John Harrell my lawful executor to this my last will and testament made by me heretofore. Given under my hand and seal, this the 3rd day of August A. D. 1866. Signed and acknowledged in the presence of Allen Warren, John R. Phillips.
