I Eliza Gatlin of said County and State, being in sound mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for same do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following: First: I desire my body to have a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my friends and relatives and the funeral expenses paid out of any moneys belonging to my estate. Second: I give and bequeath to the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, Incorporated under the laws of the State of Tennessee, the sum of fifteen hundred dollars to be loaned or ministered as to said Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society may seem best, and the interest or profit is to be by said Society used in the support of a scholarship in the Scarritt Bible Training School in Kansas City, MO., or to the support of a native worker in one of the Foreign Missionary fields, as the Lord in his spirit gives wisdom and understanding. Third: I give and bequeath to the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, at Tarboro, NC in trust for said Church five hundred dollars to be used in building a new Methodist Episcopal Church in Tarboro, NC, and should the Church not be ready to build a new house of worship when this money shall become available, then I direct said money be loaned out at interest on good and approved security, the security to be approved by G. M. T. Fountain, who I request to see that the security is good if he is living, and if he is dead, then the security is to be approved by such lawyer as the Trustees may select, until said Church shall be prepared to build when said Five Hundred Dollars and all accumulated interest shall be applied to the building such new house of worship. It being my interest that none of said money either principal or interest shall be used for any other purpose. Fourth: I give and bequeath Five Hundred Dollars to my sister Mrs. Mary E. Connell of Beloit, State of Kansas. Fifth: I give and bequeath to my sister Mrs. Annie S. McDonald of St. Joseph, Mo., Five Hundred Dollars. Sixth: I give and bequeath Five Hundred Dollars to my brother J. C. Laudis, of St. Joseph, MO. Seventh: I give and bequeath to my cook, Sallie Ann Williams, in recognition of her faithful service to me, the sum of Twenty-five Dollars, but should she die before I do, then I give this Twenty-five Dollars intended for her, to my step-daughter Julia G Gatling. Eighth: I give and bequeath to my step-daughter Julia G. Gatling all my furniture, beds, bedding, pictures, (except the oil portrait of her mother), silver, china and earthen ware, of every kind and description, all my cutlery, cooking utensils and bed and table linens of whatsoever kind and description. Ninth: I give and bequeath to my step-son Thomas Hall Gatlin the oil portrait of his mother, and all my books that he may wish, and those he does not want, I give to my said step-daughter Julia G. Gatlin. Tenth: If I should die before I shall have selected and erected a stone monument to mark the grave of my husband T. H. Gatlin lately, deceased it is my will and desire and I so direct, that such monument be selected by my step-children Thomas Hall Gatlin and Julia G. Gatlin and when so selected, that it be erected at my said husband’s grave and the costs both of the stone and its erection be paid by my estate. Eleventh: If I should die in St. Joseph, MO., with my sister Mrs. Annie S. McDonald, I wish her to have such of my personal effects as I may have at her home to do with or dispose of as she may see fit, and I so direct. Twelfth: I give devise and bequeath the rest and residue of my estate real, personal and mixed of every kind and description to be equally divided between Thomas Hall Gatlin, Julia G. Gatlin, Elizabeth Gatlin, Lucy G. Gatlin, and Francis Porter Gatlin, but should Thomas Hall Gatlin die before I do his share is to go to such child or children as he may leave him surviving in equal shares, or should the said Elizabeth Gatlin die before I do, her share is to go to her father, the said Thomas Hall Gatlin if living, if he should be dead then her share shall go to her Mother and such brothers and sisters as she may have share and share alike. Should Julia G. Gatlin die before I do her share is to go to her children share and share alike, and should either Lucy G. Gatlin or Frances Porter Gatlin die before I do the share of the one so dying shall be divided equally between the survivor and her Mother, but should the said Julia G. Gatlin, Lucy G. Gatlin and Frances Porter Gatlin all die before I do leaving no child or children or the issue of such child or children then their shares are to go to Thomas Hall Gatlin and his heirs, or should Lucy G. Gatlin and Francis Porter Gatlin both die before I do, leaving their Mother then surviving them both their shares are to go to their Mother Julia G. Gatlin. I further desire and direct, that should I die during the minority of Lucy G. Gatlin and Francis Porter Gatlin or either of them that the share or shares of my estate herein given them or her shall be used by them or her or their or her guardian, both principal and interest, as may be to their or her best interest, but should the said Lucy G. Gatlin and Francis Porter Gatlin both die during their minority leaving neither Mother, brother, or sister nor any child of either of them surviving, then such of their shares as shall not have been by them used shall go to Thomas Hall Gatlin and his heirs, but should Mother or any brother or sister of the half blood survive them, Mother, brothers and sisters or brother and sister or brother or sister as the case may be are to have such shares, share and share alike.
