Obedient to a summons of the Sheriff of Edgecombe County, we the undersigned commissioners appointed to divide and allot in severalty the lands of the petitioners and defendant in this cause, containing 1720 1/4 acres, assembled on the premises in Nos. 5 and 6 Townships, Edgecombe County, on 21st day of January 1896, and after being duly sworn according to law proceeded to partition the lands of which the late Lawrence Fountain did seized and possessed among his heirs at law being said tenants in common, according to their respective rights and interests therein and the following is our report of the same. We divided the lands into ten shares of equal value and allotted to each heir his or her share as follows. Lot No 1. Allotted to L H Fountain consisting of two tracts; First tract -- Beginning at the fork of the road near Fountain’s Store, thence along the road leading by Gray Wilkinson’s to Theo. Fountain’s line, thence along said Fountain’s line S. 60° W. 80 links to a stake, thence N. 36° 30’ E. 2 chains and 75 links to a stake, thence N 6.30’ E. 2 chains E. 2 chains and 39 links to an Iron stake corner of lot No. 2 thence along line of Lot No. 2 N 86’45 W. 18 chains and 65 links to an iron Stake on the Battleboro Road, thence along said road 14 chains and 43 links to first station containing 13 3/4 acres. 2nd Tract Beginning at an iron stake Spivey’s Corner and corner of lot No. 2 thence along line of Lot No. 2, S. 74°. 15 W. 31 chains and 48 links to a stake on the canal, thence up canal to a stake corner of lot No. 3 thence along line of said lot No. 3, S. 83°. 30’ W. 31 1/2 chains to a stake in Spivey’s line, thence along Spivey’s line S. 2.30’ W. 7 chains and 80 links to the first station containing 50 acres. Value at eight hundred and sixty-one dollars for both tracts being 63 3/4 acres. Lot No. 2 Allotted to Theo. Fountain. Beginning at an iron stake on the Battleboro road near Canal Bridge corner of Lot No. 1, thence along line of the first tract, S. 86° 45’ 8.18 chains and 65 links to an iron stake in said Theo. Fountains’ line, thence along his and Savage’s line N 6° 30’ N. 19 chains to Savage’s corner, thence along Savage’s line S. 54 E. 20 1/2 chains to the road leading by Gray Wilkinsons, thence along said road to and iron stake Spivey’s corner near the old Savage house, thence along Spivey’s line N. 3° 30’ E. 15 chains and 96 links to a Black Gum on the run of a Branch, thence N. 86° 30’ W. 19 chains and 20 links to an iron stake Spivey’s corner and corner of 2nd tract of Lot No. 1, thence along line of 2 nd tract S. 74° 15’ W. 31 chains and 48 links to a stake on the canal thence down the canal to the Battleboro road, thence along road to the beginning containing 109 acres. Valued at eight hundred and sixty-one dollars. Lot No. 3 Allotted to Etta Elsworth. Beginning at a stake at a bend in the road corner of Lot No. 4, thence along the line of Lot No. 4, N 88° 80’ W. 6 chains and 65 links to corner of the Leggett land bend in canal, thence same course continued 29 chains and 34 links to a bend in a ditch, thence N 16° W. 31 chains and 66 links to a stake Bradley’s corner thence along Bradley’s line S. 88° 30’ E. 42 chains to a small Red oak Bradley’s corner then same course continued 25 chains to first station containing 171 acres. Valued at eight hundred and sixty-one dollars. Lot No. 4. Allotted to J. L. Fountain. Beginning at a stake on the canal corner of the second tract of Lot No. 1, thence along the line of said tract S. 83° 30’ E. 31 chains and 50 links to a stake in Spivey’s line, thence along Spivey’s line N. 2° 30’ E. 32 chains and 20 links to a stake, thence S. 86° 30’ E. 25 chains to an iron stake in Wilkinson’s line, thence along Wilkinson’s line N. 25° 56’ E. 26 chains and 77 links to a Pine on Faithfull Branch Wilkinson’s corner and corner of Lot No. 5, thence along line of lot No. 5, N. 60° W. 16 chains and 35 links to a stake on the road in front of the McDowell house, thence along road to a stake at the bend corner of lot No. 3, thence along line of No. 3 N. 88° 30’ W. 6 chains and 65 links to bend in canal corner of the Leggett land, thence down said canal to first station, containing 167 1/2 acres. Value at eight hundred and sixty-one dollars. Lot No. 5 allotted to Ellen Mayo. Beginning at a stake at a bend in the road corner of Lot No. 6, thence along line of lot 6 N. 5° 30 W. 48 chains and 50 links to a stake on the canal in Moore’s Swamp, thence down said canal to the mouth of Flat Branch, thence up said branch to the mouth of Faithfull Branch, thence up said branch to a Pine Gray Wilkinson’s Corner, thence N. 60° W. 16 chains and 35 links to a stake on the road in front of the McDowell house, thence along the road to the first station, containing 203 acres. Valued at eight hundred and sixty-one dollars. Lot No. 6 allotted to L. E. Fountain. Beginning at a stake at a bend in the road corner of lot No. 5, thence along line of lot 5, N. 5° 30’ W. 48 chains and 50 links to a stake on the canal in Moore’s Swamp, thence up canal to a stake corner of lot No. 7, thence along line of lot 7, S 8° E. 21 chains and 50 links to a stake on the north side of a path, Bradley’s corner in line of lot No. 3, thence along line of lot 3, S 88° 30’ E 25 chains to a stake on the road, thence along road to first station containing 210 acres. Valued at eight hundred and sixty-one dollars. Lot No. 7. allotted to William Fountain. Beginning at a Bush at Hally corner of lot No. 6, thence N 87° 15 W 33 chains and 50 links to a pine stump at a path, thence along said path N 5° 15 E 13 chains and 22 links , N 7° 45 E 6 chains, N 6° E 6 chains N 37° 30 E 1 chain and 70 links to a bend in a ditch, thence N 8° 30 E 5 chains and 84 links to the head of a Branch, thence down said branch S 56° E 5 chains and 30 links to a stake, thence N 1° 30 W 23 chains to gum on canal in Moores Swamp at a crossway, thence down said canal to a stake corner of lot No 6, thence along line of lot Not. 6 S. E. to the first station containing 224 acres. Valued at eight hundred and sixty-one dollars. Lot No. 8 allotted to Florence Peele. Beginning at a pine stump Anderson’s corner in a Branch, thence along Anderson’ line S 89° 8 E 173 poles to a stake, thence S 3° W 92 poles to a stake in Pittman’s line, thence along Pittman’s line N 87° W 92 poles to a Black gum on the run of Mill Branch, thence down said branch to a stake corner of Lot No. 9, thence along the line of lot 9, West 130 poles to a stake in Johnson’s line, thence along Johnson’s line N 3° E. 64 poles to two red oaks an agreed corner, thence S. 88° 30 E. 44 poles to a stake, thence N. 3° S. 57 1/2 poles to the run of Mill Branch, thence up the run of said Branch to the first station, containing 136 acres including Mansion house and out buildings. Valued at eight hundred and sixty-one dollars. Lot No. 9 allotted to Ardelia Harper. Beginning at a stake in Johnson’s line corner of lot No. 8, thence along line of lot 8 East 130 poles to a stake on the run of Mill Branch, thence down the run of said branch to a Pine stump and Black gum on the east side of an old path, Pittman’s corner, thence along Pittman’s line S 53° N 4 poles to a stake corner of lot No. 10 thence West along line of Lot 10, 38 chains to a stake on the road, thence along the road 20 poles to a stake corner of Lot 10, thence S 63° W to a stake in Bradley’s line thence along Bradley’s line N 80° W 122 poles to a large sweet gum on canal in White Oak Swamp, thence down canal to Johnson’s corner, thence along Johnson’s line S 88° E 312 poles to a stake Johnson’s corner, thence N 3° E. to first station. containing 196 acres. Valued at eight hundred sixty-one dollars. Lot No. 10 allotted to Alice Fountain. Beginning at a stake on the road corner of Lot No. 9, thence along line of lot 9, S 63° W. 132 1/4 poles to a stake in Bradley’s line, thence along Bradleys line S 2° W 48 poles, thence N 86° 30 W 93 poles to the canal in White Oak Swamp, thence down said canal to a stake S. Bradley’s corner, thence N 81° E 81 poles to a stake formerly a Red oak, thence S 88° 45 E 103 1/2 poles to a stake step Bradley’s Corner, thence N 3° E 124 poles to a stake, thence N 87° W 126 poles to a dead pine in a branch, thence down said branch to a bunch of Bay trees, Pittman’s Corner, thence along Pittman’s line N 53° E 32 poles to a stake corner of Lot No. 9, thence along line of Lot 9 West 152 poles to a stake on the road, thence along said road 20 poles to first station, containning 240 acres.
