To the Writ we the under assigned have allotted to Nancy Edwards the widow of Lemmon Edwards dec'd her third part of the lands that the said Lemmon Edwards died siezed and possest of to the best of our ------beginning at a maple in the head of Jerryes spaught thence down the winds of the same to John's Branch, thence up the winds of the same to a poplar in said branch thence north eighty west one hundred & sixty three pole to a stake on Evan's line thence south th---re west ninety two pole to a litewood stake thence to the beginning containing eighty nine acres and one third given under our hands and seals the first day of April 1820. The petition of Nancy Edwards of said County humbly shewth unto your worships your petitioner aforesaid that Lamon Edwards late of the county of Edgecombe departed this life some short time past intestate leaving your petitioner, his widow & relic & the following persons viz: Stephen, Riall, Polly, Simon & Sally Edwards his children & heirs at law surviving of whom all except Stephen Edwards are infants under the age of twenty one years-------your petitioner prays your worships to appoint some discreet person to act as guardian pro here wit. Your petitioner further -------that the said Lamon Edwards dec'd siezed & possessed of a tract of land lying in the county of Edgecombe on both sides of John 's Branch adjoining the lands of James Norville, John Milbourn, Pete Evans & others containing about 270 acres which has descended to the said Stephen Riall, Polly, Simon & Sally Edwards & of which your petitioner is advised that she is entitled to have one third allotted to her for her dower. Your petitioner being thus intitled & being without ------whithout the aid of your worships prays your worships to -----your writ to the Sheriff of Edgecombe commanding him to summon a jury of freeholders properly qualified who may lay off & allot to your petitioner one third part of the said land including the mansion house for her dower & make report to next court & also to ------your writ of subpoena direct to the said Stephen, Riall, Polly, Simon & Sally Edwards commanding them to appear H-------and your petiitoner will ever pray H---------- Geo W.
