	Gay, Henry, Estate Record 1802, Edgecombe County Estate Records, 
NC State Archives CR.037.508.52.  Petition for divide the land of Henry 
Gay, dec’d. among heirs; Elias Owens and Patience, his wife, Jordan 
More and Winnie, his wife, Jacob (         ) and Mary, his wife, 
petitioners state that Henry died about the (eighteenth written but 
scratched and fourteenth written over) of Feb. 1802, seized of a tract 
of land on (Ottrey’s) Creek; petitioners Patrience, Winnie and Mary and 
the following were children of said Henry, Dempsey Gay, Sarah, 
intermarried with Joseph Thomas, of full age and Susanna, Elizabeth, 
and Lucy, under the age of 21; petitioners ask for commissioners to 
divided land and that Giles Thigpen be appointed guardian of underage 
children, Susanna, Elizabeth and Lucy; court appointed William Wooten, 
Henry Holland, Dempsey Skinner, Amos Wooten, Moses (Luper) and William 
Gay be on a commission to divide land; William Gay may have been marked 
off list.  Petition of Lucy Gay, widow of Henry, to lay off dower land, 
Feb. Ct. 1802, Henry died in Feb. 1802 seized of 200 acres of land on 
Stirrup Iron Branch and another tract of 130 acres on Otrey’s Creek; 
Henry left the following children, Winnie, married with Jordan Moore, 
Patience married to Elias Owens, Sarah married to Joseph Thomas, Mary 
married to Jacob Mercer, and Susanna, Elizabeth and Lucy, attached note 
states that Hardy Norville was appointed guardian to above mentioned 
infants.	Gay, Henry, 1802 Edgecombe Co.; petition of widow, Lucy 
states that Henry “died 2 Feb. last”, dated 24 Aug. 1802, signed Lucy
