William Godwin Will 1779

Will of William Godwin 
In the name of God amen the forth day of December in the year of our Lord 1779 I 
William Godwin Sener of Edgecomb County in the province of North Carolina 
planter am sick and week in body But in parfect mind and memory thanks be given 
unto God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body kowing that 
it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and 
Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and Recommend my 
soul into the hands of god that gave it and for my body I Recommend it to the 
Earth to be buried in a Christan like and descent manner at the discretion of my 
Executors nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall receive the 
same again by the mighty power of god and as touching such Wordly estate where 
with it hath pleased god to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same 
in manner and form following that is to say

Item I give and bequeath to my grandson JOHN GODWIN one fether bed and furneture 
one pot and one friing pan four cows and calves one horse bridle and saddle and 
Eight head of sheep.

Item and all the Rest of my Estate to be Equally Divided amongst all my 
Children.

I like wise constitute make and ordain DAVID GODWIN and THOMAS GODWIN Executors 
of this my last will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and 
disannul all and every other former Testaments wills & legaces Requests & 
Executors by me in any ways before this time testifying and confirming this and 
no other to be my last Will and Testament 

In witness where of I have set my hand and seal the day and year above written 
Signed Sealed and delivered in presents of

Cornelius Jordan Senr 
William Bond Whithead

Additional Comments:
Edgecombe County. August Court 1783 The will was produced and proved in open court 
by the oath of Cornelius Jordan. The Executors therein named were at the same time 
qualified and the will ordered to be recorded
