Edgecombe County, NC - Wills - Lucy Fort Ruffin-1838 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Virginia Crilley In the name of God, Amen. I, Lucy Ruffin of the county of Edgecombe and state of North Carolina being afflicted in body; but of sound mind and disposing memory, thanks be to God for the same, do make and ordaing this my last will and testament. 1st I give and bequeath unto my son, Jacob Ruffin one man's saddle and one bridle and one shott gun to him and his heirs forever. 2nd My will and desire is that after my crop shall be housed, that all the residue of my estate not hertofore disposed of (except one heifere which may be killed for the support of my children during the present year) should be sold on a credit of six months and after paying all my just debts that the balance be equally divided amongst my four sons viz: Jacob, Thomas, David and Dickinson Ruffin and the money be equally divided and put out on interest and paid over to each of them as they shall arrive to the age of twenty one years, and if one of them should die before they arrive to the age of twenty one years, my will and desire is that their part should be equally divided amongst the balance of my children. I hereby constitute and appoint my worthy friend, Jesse C. Knight, my executor to this my las will and testament and that the money remain in his hands until such times as it shall be necessary to pay it over as heretofore directed.
