EDGECOMBE COUNTY  PETITION OF JAMES L. RUFFIN ESTATE - 1820

To the Worshipful The Justices of the Courts of Pleas and Quarter Sessions
of the County of Edgecombe.

The Petitions of Willie Ruffin and Betsy Ruffin infants under the age of
twenty one years by Blake Little their grardian and of Henry J.G. Ruffin
administrators of Mary Ann Ruffin humbly sheweth unto your worship that
James Ruffin departed this life some time in the years of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and seventeen possessed of considerable personal
estate and that the said James L. Ruffin was the fathers of the aboved named
children and that a considerable portion of said estate descended to the
aforementioned Willie Ruffin, Betsy Ruffin and Mary Ann Ruffin, which estate
has remained together and is yet undivided. Your Petitioners further shew
unto your worships that the said Mary Ann Ruffin departed this life on or
about the __ day of __ in the year 1820 and there Letters of Administrations
on her estate have been granted to your Petitioner Henry J. G. Ruffin--your 
petioner Blake Little has acted heretofore as guardian to all three of the 
children and is desirous of settling with the proper Representative of the 
deceased chils ? Mary Ann Ruffin Your Petitioners Henry J.G. Ruffin further 
sheweth unto your worships that he will be unable to make an inventory of 
the estate of said Mary Ann Ruffin or to do or execute any part of his 
administration until the said personal property is properly divided and the 
one third part thereof shall be set apart as the property of and belonging 
to the estate of said Mary Ann Ruffin decd. 

Your petitioner therefore fancy  your worship that you will appoint five
commissioners to divide and make partition of said personal property and (to
make report to the next term of yours(Marked thru )under their hands and
seals to the next term of your worshipful Court of the proceedings by them
had thereon and your Petitioners will ever pray..
