PETITION TO SELL SLAVE, John Proctor, administrator of J.L. Proctor, dec’d of Edgecombe Co, who died in 1862 (sic), stating that the personal estate, except slaves, of Joshua L. Proctor has been sold debts still amount to about $800 and he asks permission to sell slave, (Jimmy or Jiney), signed John Proctor, Feb Ct 1863. Proctor, dec’d stating that Joshua died intestate seized and possessed of a tract of land on the south side of Little Tyan Cokey Swamp adjoining the lands of (Guilford) Worsley, (Absalom) Proctor, John N. Taylor containing 235 acres, descended to Mary Proctor, James Proctor, Helen Proctor, (Elijay) Proctor, and George Proctor, infants without guardian, signed Bridgers & Philips, solicitors. Proctor, dec’d, from a tract of land on the south side of Little Tyan Cokey Swamp, adjoining the lands of Guilford Worsley, Absalom Proctor, John N. Taylor containing 225 acres, signed W.A. YEARS SUPPORT report to Feb Ct 1861 Pleas and Quarters, commissioners lay off to Polly Proctor, widow of Joshua L. Proctor, on 7 Jan 1861, year’s provisions; 12 fat hogs suppose to be 1300 pounds, all the corn, supposed to be 30 barrels, all the wheat, supposed to be 4 bushels, all the potatoes for eating and planting, all the chickens, all the shucks, four first choice stacks ( ), 25# lint cotton, two first choice bee hives, and there not being enough stock and provisions for one year, we also allow $70 to be paid by administrator, also one bed and furniture, one wheel and pair cards, signed 4 Jan 1861, Wm. T. Mercer, JP, Jesse Price, W.M. Daughtridge, Theo. Thomas, H.G. Worsley. REPORT OF DIVISION of the land of Joshua L. Proctor by commissioners by order of 12 Apr 1875, commissioners met on property on 27 Apr 1875 and divided land among Jas. W. Proctor, Elijah Proctor and George Proctor (spelled Procktor), tenants in common and children of said J.L. Proctor, #1 to George Proctor in severalty beginning at a stake John N. Taylor’s corner then south 87 ½ east 58 poles to a stake corner of lot #2 then north ½ (?) With line of lot #2 to a stake in the run of Haw Branch then up the run of said branch to an ash stump John N. Taylor’s corner then up the run of a small branch to a black gum a new corner then south ½ east 34 poles to the beginning, containing 96 2/3 acres, valued at $1000; lot #2 to Elijah Proctor in severalty beginning at a stake corner of lot #1 then south 87 ½ east (48) poles to a stake and pine then north ½ west 286 poles to ( ) ash on the north side of the run of Haw Branch then up said branch to a stake corner of lot # 1 then south ½ east with the line of #1 to the beginning, containing 86 2/3 acres, valued at ($1050); lot #3 to Jas W. Proctor in severalty beginning at a stake & pine corner of #2 then south 87 ½ east 50 poles to a stake H.G. Worsley corner then north ½ west 325 poles to a rock corner on canal in Little Tyan Cokey Swamp then up said swamp to the mouth of the Haw Branch then up said branch to an ash corner of lot #2 then south ½ east with the line of lot # 2 286 poles to the beginning, containing 91 2/3 acres, valued at $1050, Jas. W. Proctor to pay Elijah Proctor the sum of $50, signed H.G. Worsley, O.D. Calhoun (X), A. Daughtridge. ORDER by Nov Ct 1860 to William F. Mercer, JP, Guilford Worsley, Jesse Price, Theo. Thomas & Will M. Daughtridge be appointed commissioners to lay off to Polly Proctor, widow of Joshua L. Proctor a years support for herself and family out of the crops, stock and provisions on hand, belong to the estate of her deceased husband, signed W.A. Jones.
