In the Name of God Amen!
I Jeptha F(?) Webb of the County of Edgecombe, State of N. Caroling, being in 
feeble health, but of sound mind and memory, do make, publish & declare the 
following as my last Will and Testament:
First, It is my Will and desire that my Executor and friend observe strictly 
the following directions, in regard to my interment – 1st, that my remains be 
encased in a wooden box, neatly lined with cloth of some kind, the box to be 
of equal width and depth from one end to the other.  Secondly,  I (?)  to 
being buried in the usual (?) or manner recovering upon the bark (sentence?), 
I direct that my body be placed in the box with my right side downwards and my 
left side upwards, and that the attempt be made to straighten my body and 
limbs. Thirdly, that my remains be buried in the family burial grounds of my 
brother Hyrum Webb.
Item, second, I give and bequeath to my brother Hyrum Webb all my property and 
estate of any descriptions, (?) after the payment of my debts and (?) my 
burial expenses.
Lastly, I humbly nominate, constitute and approve my brother, the same Hyrum 
Webb, Executor of my last Will and Testament.  
In testimony hereof, I have hereunto set unto my name and applied my seaid 
this the 17th day of September, 1869.

Note: in the application for Letters Testamentary, the value of Jeptha’s 
estate is worth about $4,000
