FRANK FREDERICK FREUDIG Frank Fredrick Freudig of Colonial Heights passed away at his home on November 5, 2006. His parents, Frederick and Arlene Freudig and his son, James Frederick Freudig, preceded him in death. Franklin was born in Winston-Salem, NC on December 12, 1943, and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School. He attended East Carolina university where he enrolled in ROTC and upon graduation was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He served three tours of duty in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War and was a decorated recipient of several Military honors as a Captain in the Air Force. On December 27, 1972, he married his best friend, Elizabeth Anne Douglass, at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He relocated to McKenney, VA in 1976 where he taught at Sunnyside Elementary School and later became principal of Northside Elementary in 1981. He then served as Headmaster of Tidewater Academy in Wakefield, Va. from 1988 – 1998. In 1998, he served as principal of Lakeview Elementary, Colonial Heights, until he retired in 2006. Franklin loved his children and grandchildren and was passionate about bettering the lives of all children by providing them the best education possible. He was also actively involved as a volunteer in youth sports, and, as a result, a baseball field is named for him at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina. He loved his dogs, was an avid movie-goer and enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach. Grateful for sharing his life are his best friend and wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Ann Freudig; daughters, Teresa Mary Freudig of Denver, Colorado and Nicole Freudig Rutledge and husband Austin of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; sons, Charles A. Freudig of Dinwiddie, Phillip Weathers and wife Alice of Prince George; daughter-in-law, Annie Maria Freudig of Crooks, South Dakota; four grandchildren; Samuel Frederick Freudig, Isabel Maria Freudig, Joy Beth Freudig and Jordan Freudig; devoted family member Vashon Pendleton; brother-in-law Carl Douglass; sister-in-law, Patricia Douglass, several cousin; and many friends.
