Glenn Died Last Night. Succumbs to Second Stroke of Paralysis At His Home. Successful in Business. Came to Twin-City Eighteen Years Ago; Was Member of Many Organizations. After a brief illness, Joseph H. Glenn, a well-known and highly esteemed resident of Winston-Salem, died this morning at 1:20 o'clock, at his home, No. 1074 West Fourth stret, aged thirty-six years. The announcement of Mr. Glenn's death will be received in this city and throughout this section of North Carolina with sorrow and regret. While looking after the daily sales at Brown's warehouse on Tuesday, February 15, Mr. Glenn suffered a stroke of paralysis. The attack came while he was on the warehouse floor. Removed immediately to his home, he received every possible attention, and in the days that followed he showed improvement and his condition became so much better that his family and friends hoped he would rally and be restored to health. Yesterday his symptoms were favorable throughout the day and last night, as late as 9 o'clock, there was no indication that the end was so near at hand. At 10 o'clock the second stroke came and at 1:20 th breathed his last. Joseph Henry Glenn was born in Stoneville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Glenn. Reared in Stoneville and educated in the schools there, he moved to Winston-Salem eighteen years ago and accepted a position with M.W. Norfleet and Co., at the Piedmont warehouse. After remaining with this company for a number of years he became associated with the management of the old Star warehouse and the old Brown warehouse, with his father-in-law, A.R. Bennett, and J.T. Simpson. A few years later he purchased the interest of his father-in- law in old Brown's warehouse and operated that enterprise with Mr. Simpson under the firm name of Simpson and Glenn. Winning success in its chosen field, the firm two years ago built the new Brown's warehouse and ran both establishments until August of last year, when the business at old Brown's warehouse was discontinued and the building converted to other uses. Since August, Mr. Glenn has devoted his entire time to the splendid new enterprise which was recognized as one of the important branches of the tobacco industry in this State. Mr. Glenn was regarded as a warehouse man of exceptional ability. In his business activities he won the confidence and respect of all who had transactions with him, and was esteemed in the highest measure by manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and by the farmers in the large territory which his interest covered. He was honest and upright in all his dealings, a man of board view, public spirited, keenly interested in his community, and always ready and willing to aid in every enterprise that looked to the good of his city, county, and State. Mr. Glenn was a member of Winston lodge, A.F. and A.M., Winston Chapter, R.A.M. and Piedmont Commandery, Knights Templars. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Twin City and Forsyth Country Clubs, vice president of the Winston Tobacco Association, one of the board of managers of the Trade Street branch of the Wachovia Bank and Trust Co., and a member of the board of directors of the Citizens' Building and Loan Associations. Mr. Glenn was a member of the Christian church at Stoneville and he attended with his wife Centenary Methodist church in this city. Surviving him are his widow, who was Miss Annie Bennett, daughter of the late A.R. Bennett, and three sons and one daughter, Joseph, Jr., Archer, James and Martha Ann Glenn. Mr. Glenn is also survived by three brothers and three sisters. One of his brothers, Jesse B. Glenn, has been associated with him in the warehouse business here for some years, and has made his home at the residence on Fourth street. Announcement of funeral arrangements will be made later. The services and interment will take place in Winston-Salem.
