The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 20 Dec 1898
Cicero Holder, a white man, met with a shocking death near Clemmonsville about
4:30 on Dec 6. While in a well cleaning it out, the rope broke, causing a bucket
full of dirt to fall on him. It is learned that the well is about 100 feet deep
and that Mr Holder was dead when taken out.
