WIMMER. Native and Widely Known Resident of Salem Succumbs to Long Illness. Captain William Morgan Wimmer, 71, for fifty years connected with the Southern Railway as freight clerk and one of the best known residents of Salem, died at a local hospital at 7 o'clock Thursday morning [October 8]. He resided at 623 Irvin street and had been in declining health several years, his condition being serious for the past six weeks. He was born in Salem on July 24, 1865, the son of John and Mary Cloud Wimmer. He spent all his life in Salem and retired from the Southern Railway several years ago when his health failed. He was a member of the Home Moravian Church, the Salem Masonic Lodge, A.F. and A.M., and of the Salem lodge of the Knights of Pythias. His wife, who was Miss Lillian Walker prior to marriaged, died December 7, 1924. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. W. R. Brown, with whom he made his home; three grandchildren, Misses Dorathea Porter and Nancy Porter of Charlotte, and Dolories Brown, of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be conducted from the home of Mrs. Brown Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock by Rev. Gordon Spaugh and Dr. Howard Rondthaler. Interment will be in Moravian Graveyard."
