Born July 23, 1841, in Franklin County, NC;
1859-1861, purchasing agent, paymaster and general superintendent for 
contractor Blue Ridge Rd;
after close of the war leased, equipped and operated railway ferry for Raleigh 
& Gaston and Petersburgh Rds at Gaston, NC;
July 1867 to Nov. 1875, superintendent Raleigh & Gaston and Raleigh & 
Augusta Rds;
1875 to 1885, superintendent North Carolina division Richmond & Danville Rd;
1881; elected president Western North Carolina Rd, and completed same road;
1878 to 1880, also superintendent Atlantic & North Carolina Rd and 
superintendent North Carolina division Richmond & Danville Rd;
1883 to 1886, assistant to president Richmond & Danville Rd;
1886 to Dec. 1889, third vice president;
Dec. 1889 to June 30, 1894, second vice-president same road;
July 1892 to June 30, 1894, also general agent for receivers same road;
June 30, 1894 to Oct. 1, 1895, second vice-president Southern Ry;
Oct. 1, 1895 to date, first vice-president same road;
is also first vice-president of the Mobile & Ohio and Alabama Great Southern 
Rds and president Danville & Western, Blue Ridge, Tallulah Falls, Augusta 
Southern and Hartwell Rys.
