Franklin County, NC - John King Revolutionary War Pension, 1832 ~~~~~~~~~~ October 22, 1931 Mrs. J.W. Atkins Ligpott, Kentucky Reference is made to your letter relative to John King, a soldier of the Revolutionary War. A search of the records of this office has been made and no claim for pension found based upon the exact service described in the report of the War Department forwarded by you. You are furnished herein a record of one John King who served in the North Carolina Troops but there is no way to determine whether or not it is the soldier in whom you are interested. John King enlisted, date and place not stated, served as a private in Captains E. Eaton, Volla Powell, and Joseph Kidd's Company, Third North Carolina Regiment, length of service three years. He was allowed pension on his application executed October 9, 1832 at which time he was aged seventy eight years and resided in Franklin County, North Carolina. He died December 4, 1843. The date of his birth is not stated. The soldier married December 20, 1779, Mary or Polly Underwood. In 1822 soldier stated that his wife Mary, was then aged thirty five years. In 1846 it was stated that she was aged eighty two years. At that time she was a resident of Franklin County, North Carolina. Two daughters are referred to, Martha Anne and Evalind in 1822, aged respectively nine and three years. Son Miles King was living in 1852 and made affidavit in that year in Franklin County, North Carolina. Very truly yours A.D.
