Sept. 29, 1859 North Carolina Argus September 29, 1859 A MOST MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT - We find in the Raleigh Register the particulars of a most distressing accident which happened in Franklin County on the 17th inst. Two gentlement, named SAMUEL CLIFTON and SHERWOOD DENTON, neighbors on the most intimate terms of friendship, went into the country to shoot rabbits. After a while, a rabbit was startled on a creek, and MR. DENTON went on one side and MR. CLIFTON on the other. Shortly after, MR. CLIFTON caught sight of the rabbit and fired, one of the shots entering MR. DENTON'S breast near the heart and another in his leg. MR. DENTON died in about 15 minutes.
