H. DAVIS in the 35th year of her age. Her disease was Erysipelas, and originated in a small chronic sore on the left angle of the mouth; it progressed with irresistible malignity to the throat and head, and terminated fatally in four days. Mrs. DAVIS was a lady of superior intellect, and being surrounded by circumstances favorable to the culture and exhibition of the christian graces, was leading a life of usefulness by cooperating with an affectionate husband in rearing and training four daughters and three sons for maturity and usefulness in coming life. But amidst all and with flattering prospects of longevity, Death singled her out as his victim. She had been a regular member of the Methodist E. Church for 16 years, and had given satisfactory evidence of the genuineness of her piety. The savour of her influence as a christian wife and mother has not gone with her to the grave. May Heaven grant it ever to rest on those who weep because she is not. Her disease being such as to cause great difficulty and pain in articulation, she expressed but little in relation to her prospects beyond the grave. Yet she remained in possession of her mental faculties, absorbed in devotion, and met death with that calmness which nothing short of the Christian Religion could impart.
