Hill : A Confederate Veteran One by one as God sees fit the “Old Vets” pass out of this world to that one God has made for those who follow him to answer his call, though he has fought a good fight, enter now into the joys of thy kingdom. On last Thursday morning, January_____________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ______God_______________________________________________________________ ________ and infinite love sent through silent night from heaven the death angel to the home of William Doll Hill, and thrust the sting of death through his heart and claimed him as his own. Wednesday at 12 o’clock, Mr. Hill was struck with a stroke of paralysis and died at 5 o’clock Thursday morning this being the third stroke. He was 70 years-old, born in Wake county near Raleigh, august 13, 1845 and in early youth moved to Franklin county where the most of his life has been spent. Mr. Hill was volunteer to the war in his fathers place in 1861 and fought it through in Co. F, 47th Regiment. In 1865 in the battle at Appomattox he stood to the back of his commander General Robert E. Lee, and saw him give up his sword, and surender his army. In the fall of 1865 after the war cupid bound in holy bonds of matrimony his heart to that of Katy Kathlene Mitchell and made them man and wife. Mr. Hill was a prominent citizen, a good farmer and a good provider, a family of ten children. Until in his late years when health gave way, at the time of his death he was living with Mr. W.A. Strickland near Seven Paths. In middle age, he gave his heart to God and joined the church at Poplar Springs, later moving his membership to Cypress Chapel. He was loyal to his church and his God for a long time an active church worker. He was tenderly laid to rest beneath the sod in his cold earthly tomb in Cypress church burying ground to wait till the trumpet of God to sound and the grave shall give up their dead. O! grave where art thou victory, O! death where art thou sting? Funeral services were conducted by the beloved pastor, Rev. O.W. Sawyer. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife one brother, John W. Hill, three sons, Messrs Alexander, Henry, Paterson and Walter Foster, three daughters Mesdames, James Fuller, Willie Griffin and A.M. Strickland, and a host of grandchildren and friends. The pall bearers were: R.R. Strickland, W.A. Strickland, R.V. Collins, E.S. Moore, J.H. Strickland and W.J. Wilder; assistants, B.P. Hinton and S.R. Wilder. May God’s blessings rest upon and comfort the bereaved family. We as friends extend our best wishes and hert-felt sympathy. O, God how canst thou take from us our father, that we can never see him agin. we miss him so much. His chair is empty and can never be filled, his voice is gone and we can never hear it again. Our home is blighted without the cares of fathers. Why should we weep for thou art the ruler. Thou doeth all things well. Thou art gone O, beloved father, thou canst never return but beyond that shinning river we will meet to part no never, far from sin will turn. We know thou art in heaven above to live with God in peace and love. To leave this sinful world of care, for sometimes its almost more than we can bear. We will meet thee safe at home and live together there forever. D.P.H.
