JOHN and ELIZABETH O'BRIEN of Franklin County, North Carolina, aged 18 years and seven months. Following the promptings of his own generous feelings for his country's good, he promptly volunteered with two other brothers, in Company E, lst North Carolina Cavalry. He was much esteemed and beloved by his comrades. Although young, he was moral, virtuous, kind and obliging; almost without a fault, he was loved by all you knew him. He was an affectionate and doting son, whose loss will be deeply felt by his fond parents and numerouos relatives, but we mourn not as those without hope.
