                        Jack William Richards
                     Beloved father, friend & hero
                 February 3, 1920 – December 13, 2007 
  Jack William Richards, 87, of 22 Jacks Way, Zebulon, died peacefully 
Thursday at Duke Raleigh Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  A native 
of Wake County he was the son of the late John Eacho & Lucy Mitchell Richards. 
In 1940 he left the farm and joined the U.S. Navy and served 8 years.  He was 
on the USS Dobbin and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the 
Wakefield Masonic Lodge 155, the Zebulon Shriners & Sudan Temple, and a 
charter member of the Mudcats Booster Club attending more games than any other 
member. Jack retired in 1986 from NCNB. 
   He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty Joyce Wright 
Richards, half brother, Charles Warwick and half sister, Louise Bryan.
   He is survived by his sons: William “Bill” and wife Marie, Tracy N. 
Richards and wife Rachel Jewel all of Louisburg; daughter, Lyn Richards Massey 
and husband Ray of Zebulon; half brothers; Bill E. Warwick of Lumberton, 
George F. Warwick and wife Martha of Wilmington, half sisters; Anne Van 
Nordheim and husband Ed of Wilmington and Nancy Shipley and husband Don of 
Jacksonville,NC; grandchildren, Marlet M. Edwards and husband Michael of 
Raleigh & David B. Massey of Raleigh and Emerald N. Richards, great 
granddaughter, Wallace E. Edwards.
   Funeral services were held at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel at 3:oo pm on 
Sunday, December 16, 2007 in Wendell, NC. with visitation from 1:00-3:00 pm 
prior with Rev. Mark Cottrell officiating.  Burial followed at Mitchell Family 
Cemetery on Mitchell Town Rd, Zebulon, NC.
