Death of a Good Woman

Death entered the household of Mr. E. B. Smith on Monday evening and took 
there from the wife and mother of that home.  For a long time Mrs. Smith has 
been a great sufferer and the announcement of her death was no surprise to 
those who knew her condition.  She was a member of the Baptist church and 
was a good, Christian woman and while she suffered a great deal on earth, 
she bore her afflictions patiently and was ready for the summons.  She 
leaves a husband, a daughter and one son, and a number of relatives to mourn 
her departure.  The burial took place in the cemetery on Tuesday evening, 
conducted by Rev. H. H. Mashburn.  The following were the pall-bearers:  
R. A. Bobbitt, W. E. Murphy, T. B. Wilder, W. W. Boddie, A. B. Collier, 
and J. W. Mustian.

Mrs. E. B. Smith Dead

This good woman was the beloved wife of Mr. E. B. Smith.  For many years 
they walked the path of life together, but now she is gone and he is left 
alone to mourn over his sad bereavement.  Cleora Cecil Hale was born 
February 2, 1867.  She was the only daughter o f the late Henderson and 
Arabella Hale.  At the age of 14 years she was converted and joined the 
Baptist Church of Louisburg where she remained a member until the time of 
her death.  On April 22, 1889 she was united in marriage to Eddie Barrett 
Smith.  To them were born two children, a son and a daughter.  Annie 
Pauline and Emmitt Clifford, survive their mother, to mourn with their 
father their irreparable loss.  For three or four years her health had 
been declining.  For the last few months she rapidly grew worse and it 
became plain that the time of her departure was at hand.  At eight o'clock 
Monday evening July 16, 1906, she closed her eyes on the scenes of earth, 
and entered into rest that remaineth to the people of God.

The thirty-nine years of her earthly life are passed but there remains 
for her an eternity of the Heaven life.  It is sad to know that we will 
meet no more here, but we will meet in Heaven.  For several long years 
she had born the afflictions uncomplainingly and with the spirit of a 
true and sincere Christian, for such the writer knew her to be.  She was 
kind and accommodating to her friends and neighbors, and in the hole her 
gentle love and influence was ever felt, but those who knew her feel, 
without need of expression that her place in not easily filled, if indeed 
it can ever be.  May God comfort the heart broken husband and may he 
strive more earnestly to serve the God his faithful and true wife worshipped.  
May he bow in meek submission to Him that "doeth all things well," and 
when his days are numbered here, may he receive the welcome she is waiting 
to give him.  A.W.M.
