Franklin County, NC - Mary Bowden Will ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Contributor note: Mary "Molly" Underwood was married to John Bowden. John's will was probated in Franklin Co., NC - 1829. Will of MARY BOWDEN, Franklin Co., NC, probated Spring Term 1860, written Sept. 16, 1854. I MARY BOWDEN of the county of Franklin and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my last will and Testament in manner and form following that is to Say 1st. that my Executor herein after named Shall provide for my Body a decent burial Suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts whosoever and to whomsoever owing out of the moneys that may first come into his hands as a part or parcel of my estate Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my children lawfully begotten of my Body JOHN BOWDEN,ELIZABETH MORRIS, ELIAS BOWDEN, DEMPSEY BOWDEN, BENNET BOWDEN, HIRAM BOWDEN, MARTHA BUNTING, MARY EDWARDS, ABEL BOWDEN, FRANCES COPPEDGE, & ATHEY EDWARDS but my will is that the Said ATHEY EDWARDS is to be entitled to her interest in my property both real and personal during her natural life and I leave my friend Washington Harris as agent for her to let her have portions agreeable to her necessities and the remainder if any to go to her children after her death My desire and will is that my personal property be equally divided in lots between my children above named the Said property consists of the following negroes and their increases Vilet, Allen, Peyton, Vina, Martha, Cumel, George, Hilliard, John, Gray, Ransom, Doctor, Mathews, Arch, Jefferson, James, Larzo, Caroline, Nicey, Jack, Bogy, Minnie, Minerva, Mary, Harry, Tom, Charity Lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend Washington Harris my lawful Executor to all intents and purposes to execute this my last will and Testament according to the true intent and meaning of the Same and part and clause thereof, hereby revoking and delcaring utterly all other wills and Testaments by me heretofore made In Witness Whereof I the Said MARY BOWDEN do hereunto Set my hand and Seal this the Sixteenth day of September AD Eighteen hundred and fifty four Signed Sealed published and declared by the Said MARY BOWDEN to be her last will and Testament in the presence of us at her request and in her presance do subscribe our names as witness thereto MARY BOWDEN Test: Josiah Collins, Richmond Upchurch, Tho.
