MENDENHALL Died, near Middletown in Smithfield, Va., on the 28th of October, 1862, of a disease of the heart, PRIVATE EDWIN B., MENDENHALL [of Gaston, N. C.], in the 26th year of his age. In the death of this excellent young man, we are called to mourn another victim of the ruthless war which has been forced upon us by a cruel and vindictive enemy. MR. MENDENHALL, from childhood, was distinguished by strict integrity. He volunteered in defence of his country in August, 1861, in Company B (CAPT. EDWARDS, afterwards and at present, CAPT. S. N. STOWE) 28th Regt., N. C. T. He bore all the terrible ordeals through which our troops passed in the battle before (ink blot), his health failed and for many weeks he continued in his decline in the hospital.
