J. Frank Armstrong conducting the funeral. Mr. Mitchem was 79 years of age and for nearly thirty years had been totally blind. He served with distinction throughout the civil war. M. Stroup, M. Kyser, J.T.R. Damron and John Costner, surviving soldiers of the Confederacy, acted as pallbearers.
