RIDDICK GATESVILLE NEWS Funeral services for L.C. Riddick, aged 65, was conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the M.E. church by the pastor, Rev. C.W. Benson, assisted by Rev. Eastman, rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, before a large audience who gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to a friend and loved one. He was operated on in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Norfolk, Monday, July 1, and died Saturday night at 12 o’clock. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W.B. Williams, of Gatesville, and a half-brother in Florida, and several nieces and nephews. Favorite song selections rendered beautifully by Mesdames Lucie Riddick, T.L. Carter, Helen V. Williams, J.W. Brown, Edgar Cross, C.M. Early, accompanied by Miss Margarette Lawrence, were very inspiring and consoling to the bereaved ones. Mr. Riddick was a splendid Christian man, ever mindful of his duty to all whom he chanced to come in contact with. A man who spoke well of his fellowmen, and a man who never tried to attend to the other fellow’s business. He was a good man in the church, ever ready to give liberally to promote the higher things in life. Many designs of beautiful flowers were placed around him, which tells of the esteem in which he was held. Active pallbearers were Boland Waters, Sebrell Waters, Stafford Moore, Dr. Hunter, J.J. Meeder and Hubert Eason; honorary, W.J. Deans, Charles Askew, J.F. Eure, Edgar Cross, W.J. Eason, C.O. Edwards, J.A. Eason, W.F. Eason, J.P. Blanchard, Lycurgus Hofler, A.P. Godwin, E.F. Turner, L.S. Carter, N.J. Riddick, O.C. Turner, R.E. Williams, Kader Baines, Jacob Blanchard, J.B. Hathaway, C.M. Lawrence, S. Fineburg, J.H. Felton, R.W. Hayes, S.P. Cross, J.L. Hofler, T.G. Hayes, J.R. Freeman, Lloyd Freeman, A.S. Hudgins, C.W. Hudgins, J.M. Lilley. Burial was in the Gatesville cemetery beside his wife, who preceded him a number of years ago.
