CHARLES LEWIS SPENCER JR. 
 
SPRUCE PINE - Charles Lewis Spencer Jr., 86, of Laurel Creek Court, died 
Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 in Brian Center Health and Rehab. He was a native of 
Gaston County, but lived in Charlotte since 1952. He was the son of the late 
Charles L. and Janie Pearson Spencer Sr., and husband of the late Frances W. 
Spencer. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lamar and Don Spencer. 
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, and a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian 
Church for 55 years. He was employed at Whitin Machine Works and retired from 
General Tire Corporation.

Survivors include three sons, Charles L. Spencer III of Spruce Pine, Kenneth 
B. Spencer of Marion, and John G. Spencer of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Lib 
Mayberry of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and three great-
grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Colonial Chapel of 
Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia. The Rev. Steve Williams officiated. Burial 
was in Gaston Memorial Park. The family received friends from noon until the 
service hour Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to
