           THE VICKS’:  NOTICE OF SEPARATION
   WHEREAS, my wife, ELIZABETH VICK, did on Friday or Saturday, the 17th or 
18th, of this present month, August, in my absence from home about a week, 
quit my house, bed and board, without any just cause; and now is, I 
understand, in the County of Gates, and State of North Carolina, and in the 
neighborhood in which I married her; where she may at a short period injure me 
very much by running me in debt, provided that she is not timely prevent. 
These are therefore to inform all and every person or persons, that it may 
concern, that I shall not hold myself, my heirs, executors or administrators, 
bound in any manner or degree whatsoever, for any contract or contracts that 
she may have made, or that she may hereafter make, since her elopement; 
neither do I myself, my heirs, executors or administrators consider him, nor 
them or either of them bound, neither will I pay any debt or contract that she 
may have made within the said State, since our intermarriage; as she did, at 
that time, reserve separate estate to herself,, and now hath a sufficiency of 
such estate to support her. Therefore, if any person or persons shall have 
made any contract or contracts with her within the State whatsoever, he, she 
or they, is to and may look to her alone, her heirs, executors, administrators 
or assigns for payment; as I am determined for myself, my heirs, executors and 
administrators, or assigns, for many and obvious reasons, not to pay any such 
contract or contracts whatsoever, contracted within the said State; nor will 
I, for myself, my heirs, executors or administrators, pay and discharge any 
contract or contracts that she may have made or may make with any persons 
within the United States since her said elopement.
