               BREACH OF MARRIAGE CONTRACT
   In the Superior Court of Gates County, was decided the case of MARGARET 
WILLIAMS vs. PETER PILAND, for a breach of marriage contract. The Plaintiff, 
who was a member, having been seduced, and the Defendant a Preacher of a 
certain religious society, under a promise of marriage, brought this action to 
recover damages for the injury she had sustained. From the evidence of the 
Jury, after a few moments consultation, brought in a verdict of $1,500 
damages! being one half of the supposed vallue of the Defendant's Estate.
