                Benjamin Mathias to Micager Cowper,1862

This Indenture made and entered into on this first day January 1862 By and 
between BENJAMIN MATHIAS of the county Of Gates and State of North Carolina 
of the first part and MICAGER COWPER of the County & State aforesaid of the 
second part. Witfseth that the said BENJAMIN MATHIAS for and in 
consideration of the sum of Sixty Dollars to him in hand paid by the said 
MICAGER COWPER the Receipt whereof he does hereby acknowledge himself 
contented and paid hath granted bargained & sold unto the said MICAGER 
COWPER heirs and afsigns a certain piece or parcel of land in the said 
county adjoining the lands of BENJAMIN BENTON on the east. SAMUEL R. 
HARRELL the South JORDAN PARKER on the west and MRS. CHRISTIAN ELLIS on the 
North, containing nine acres more or lefs with all the appurtenances 
thereto belonging to have the above described land and premises unto him 
the said MICAGER COWPER his heirs or afsigns forever , and he the said 
BENJAMIN MATHIAS for himself & heirs do promise!  & covenant to and with 
the said MICAGER COWPER & heirs that he is at the time of sealing and 
delivering these presence the lawful owner thereof and have full power to 
convey the same in of simple and forever warrent and defend the title of 
the same against the lawfull claims of all persons whatsoever in witnefs 
where of the said BENJAMIN MATHIAS hath sett his hand & seal on this the 
day and year. above written

North Carolina Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions November Term A.D. 
1862Gates County The foregoing deed of B. and sale from BENJ. MATHIAS to 
MICAGER COWPER was exhibited before me in open court and proven by the oath 
of THOS.PARKER one of the witnesses therefore let the same with this 
certificate be registered.
