Gladney Stamps, Arkansas Dear Madam: Reference is made to your letter in which you request information in regard to Solomon Whitfield, a soldier of the Revolutionary War. His history is furnished herein as found in the papers on file in Revolutionary War pension claim, S.18281, based upon his military service in that war. Solomon Whitfield was born in Nansemond County, Virginia, date not given. He enlisted in said Nansemond County, in 1780, and during that year served three tours of six weeks each as a private in Captain Demsey Summer's Company, Colonel Lemuel Riddick's Virginia Regiment; he elisted in 1781, and served two tours of six weeks each in that year under Captains Robert Riddick and James McClenny in the Virginia Troops. He was allowed pension on his application executed May 13, 1833, at which time he was aged seventy years and resided in Nansemond County, Virginia, where, he stated, he had always lived. He died September 19, 1836. There are no data as to soldier's family. Very truly yours A.D.
