Hill & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. W.A. Grissom and the Rev. Fred T. Wright. Burial was in Windsor cemetery. Pallbearers were Leonard Hill Cox, William A. Anderson II, Marvin Hill Alphin, James Harrell Alphin, John Steele Alphin, George Monty Alphin, Moody E. Stallings, John Rufus Eason, Shelton W. Alphin and Mack Eason. Alphin, 73, a former mayor of Windsor, died Tuesday at 12:10 p.m. in Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after a short illness. A native of Gates County, N.C., he was retired general merchant. He was a member of Windsor Christian Church and its Men’s Bible Class. He was a past president of Windsor Ruritan Club and of Isle of Wight County Farm Bureau. He was a son of John and Mrs. Mamie Harrell Alphin and the husband of Mrs. Edith Hill Alphin. Besides his widow, surviving are three daughters, Mrs. W.A. Anderson of High Point, N.C., Mrs. L.E. Cox Jr. of Smithfield, and Mrs. Troy Willis Jr. of Isle of Wight County; five sons, L.H. Alphin Jr., John B. Alphin, and R.O. Alphin of Zuni, W.M. Alphin of Culpepper, and Thomas Alphin of Windsor; four sisters, Mrs. E.C. Jones of Portsmouth, Mrs. Elsie Eason and Mrs. Mabel Jones of Sunbury, N.C., and Mrs. C.D. Andrews of Suffolk; 22 grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
