"Mrs. Carter Dies After Collision; Funeral Sunday. Mrs. Hallett CARTER, 26, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. BAINES of Gatesville, died in a Suffolk hospital late Thursday as a result of a highway accident in which her skull was fractured. Mr. CARTER, who was driving the car when it collided with another operated by Earl V. EDWARDS of Richmond, sustained serious internal injuries. EDWARDS was reported only slightly injured. The Carters were enroute to Carrsville, their home, when the car skidded on the icy highway. Mrs. CARTER was thrown clear of the coupe. EDWARDS was recognized for his appearance pending further investigation of the fatal accident. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Suffolk and at the cemetery, Holland. The Rev. John P. BATKINS of Beaver Dam Church, assisted by the Rev. T. Sloan GUY of Gatesvilles, officiated. Survivors, in addition to Mr. CARTER and Mrs. CARTER's parents, are Mrs. Albert CARTER, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. A. L. LILLEY, Gatesville; Miss Mabel BAINES, Portsmouth, and Jean BAINES of Gatesville, sisters; and four brothers, Edgar and William BAINES of Gatesville and Edward and Marion BAINES of Newport News. Pallbearers were Mike CARTER, Albert CARTER, Bradley CARTER, John Henry CARTER, Rochell EASON, Marion and Edward BAINES and A.L. LILLEY."
