LYCURGUS L. GOODMAN

GATES COUNTY VETERAN DIES
The depleted ranks of Confederate veterans suffered another casualty yesterday 
morning with the death of Lycurgus L. Goodman, aged 98, well known resident of 
Somerton. He was the last surviving Confederate veteran of Gates. 
Mr. Goodman is survived by a son, James L. Goodman, of Somerton, and several 
nephews and nieces, including Mrs. T. V. Arthur, of Somerton; James I. and J. D. 
Goodman, both of Norfolk; N. T. Goodman, of Atlanta; H. H. Goodman, of 
Portsmouth; Mrs. Mattie Carter, of Winton, N. C., and Miss Venie Lee, of Winton.
Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at Somerton 
Methodist Church by the Rev. J. S. Maxey. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
