MARY HELEN PORTER HOLLAND

   Mrs. Mary Helen Porter Holland, 83, of Sedley, formerly of Holland, died at 
the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.B. Wellons, on Monday, March 21, after an 
illness of several months.

   Mrs. Holland was the widow of Julius Frank Holland of Nansemond County, and 
the daughter of Jesse and Margaret Elvira Mathias Porter of Gates County, N.C.  
She was a member of the Holland Christian Church and of its Woman’s Missionary 
Society.

   Surviving are two sons, Arthur Benjamin Holland of Suffolk and Jesse Moody 
Holland of Norfolk; three daughters, Mrs. Novella H. Howell and Mrs. Edrie H. 
Holland, both of Holland, and Mrs. Bessie H. Wellons of Sedley; 10 
grandchildren, four great-step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; 
four brothers, Howard L. Porter of Norfolk, Larry Porter of Mount Vernon, Ala., 
Frank Porter of Gilberttown, Ala., and Rev. H.B. Porter of Durham, N.C.; and two 
sisters, Mrs. C. Wesley Rountree of Suffolk and Mrs. Mattie P. Riddick of 
Norfolk.

   Funeral services were conducted at the Holland Christian Church on Wednesday 
afternoon at 4:30 o’clock by Rev. J.H. Lightbourne, pastor of the Holland 
Baptist Church. Interment was in the Holland Cemetery.
