LEROY JONES AGED VICTIM OF FIRE IS BURIED Rites Held For Mrs. LeRoy Jones, 84, Who Perished In Flames Which Destroyed Her Home Near Sunbury. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for Mrs. LeRoy Jones, 84-year- old Gates county woman, who perished in the flames which destroyed her home, six miles beyond Sunbury, Monday afternoon. The fire which destroyed the big farm house is thought to have started in the aged woman’s room. Her son, Lee Jones, who lived at the family place, noticed unusual smoke pouring from the chimney while he was working in the yard. Entering the house and seeking his mother, who was practically an invalid, he found her unconscious on her bed in a room dense with smoke. He lifted her from the room and then brought out his wife, who was ill, from her room in another part of the house. The elder Mrs. Jones never regained consciousness and died a few moments after being reached by her son. Funeral rites were conducted at the home of Mrs.*Duke Eason, a neighbor, yesterday at 2 p. m. Burial was in the family cemetery. Mrs. Jones was the mother of Paul L. Jones, Tom Jones and Mrs. Mary White, of this city; Lee Jones, of Gates county, Herbert Jones, of Holland, Mrs. J. L. Alphin, of Indian River, Mrs. Gilbert Ward, of South Norfolk, and Mrs. Alfred Eason, of Sunbury.
