ERMA LEE POLSON MATHIAS

CORAPEAKE – Erma Lee Polson Mathias, 86, of the 1300 block of NC 32N, died Feb. 
10, 2000, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk.

Mrs. Mathias was born in Gates County. The daughter of the late George Thomas 
and Mrs. Diana Brinkley Polson, she was a homemaker. An Active member of Eureka 
Baptist Church, she was involved in the Ida K. Brinkley Sunday School Class, the 
Fannie Knight King Circle, the Young at Heart Senior Group, and had been in the 
choir for 58 years.

Preceded in death by her husband Louis P. Mathias Sr. on Oct. 15, 1999, she is 
survived by two daughters, Margaret M. Dale of Corapeake and Eunice M. Carr and 
her husband, Ivan, of Virginia Beach; a son, Louis P. Mathias Jr. and his wife, 
Louise, of Corapeake; eight grandchildren, Mark Mathias, Bill Jones, Debbie 
Eure, Mike Carr, David Mathias, Tracey Carr, Doug Carr, and Thomas Dale; and six 
great-grandchildren, Jessica Eure, Charlie Eure, Aaron Mathias, Justin Carr, 
Nicholas Mathias and Courtney Mathias. She was also predeceased by a 
granddaughter, Cheryl Anne Dale.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Eureka Baptist Church by the 
Rev. Cameron Currin and the Rev. James H. Davenport. Burial will follow in the 
church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge.

Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home and 
other times at her residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Eureka Baptist Church 
of the Gates County Rescue Squad.
