Born March 10, 1919, in Gatesville, N.C., he was the son of the late J. Lee and Martha Rountree McClenny. He was retired as a master machineist, technical engineer at Planters and served in the Navy in World War II. He was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church, the Savage Sunday School class, the United Methodist Men and a former member of the Prime Time Singers. He is survived by his wife, Viola Bunch McClenney; daughter, Patricia M. Byrum and husband Lloyd E. of Powhatan; son, Gerald Lee McClenny and wife Brenda N. of Suffolk, Gladys Boyd of Georgia; grandchildren, Lloyd E. Byrum, Jr., James Troy Byrum, Lisa Anne Byrum, Felicia M. Nowak, Tracy M. Wray; great-grandchildren, Kelley, Brittany, Lauren, Lindsay, Ashleigh, Matthew, Justin, Jarrod and Jessica. A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Magnolia United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michale Derflinger with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Magnolia Expansion Fund, 1764 Wilroy Road, Suffolk, VA 23434. The family would like to acknowledge the doctors of Family Medicine, Dr. Gupta and Staff, the ICU nurses at Obici Hospital in appreciation of their tender care.
