JOSEPH SAMUEL PIERCE

SUNBURY, N.C. – Joseph Samuel Pierce, 72, retired carpenter who had worked at 
the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, died Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. in Hillcrest Nursing 
Home.
He was a son of Joseph Henry and Mrs. Elizabeth Pierce of Gates County and the 
husband of the late Mrs. Lessie Ward Pierce.
He was a member of Holly Grove Odd Fellows Lodge, Gates County American Legion 
Post and Damascus Christian Church and its Men’s Bible Class.
Surviving are a son, Joseph T. Pierce of Suffolk; three daughters, Mrs. Margie 
Galloway of Franklin; Mrs. Dorothy Winslow of Williamsburg, and Mrs. Jacqueline 
Parker of Suffolk; and a sister, Mrs. Dixie Jones of Suffolk.
Funeral service was conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in Damascus Christian Church by 
the Rev. Ellis Clark.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home was in charge.
