LONNIE RIDDICK UMPHLETT

    Lonnie Riddick Umphlett, 67, a farmer of the Zuni community, died from a 
heart attack on Friday, February 6, while en route to Louise Obici Hospital, 
Suffolk.

   Mr. Umphlett was the husband of Mrs. Lizzie Bradshaw Umphlett of Zuni, and 
the son of the late Louis Charles and Leah Derby Umphlett of North Carolina. He 
had been a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church for many years.

   Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Martha U. Rhodes of 
Myrtle and Mrs. Mamie U. Martin of Williamsburg; five sons, Gordon Lee Umphlett 
of Garnerville, N.Y., and J. Louis Umphlett, J. Sidney Umphlett, Lonnie R. 
Umphlett, Jr., and U.S. Umphlett, all of Zuni; 13 grandchildren; and one half-
brother, H.E. Underwood of Franklin.

   Funeral services were held at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon 
at 3 o’clock, with Rev. L.E. Holzbach officiating. Interment was in the church 
cemetery, the pallbearers being Ocie Bradshaw, Talmadge Edwards, L.E. Eley, 
Shirley T. Holland, Dr. Ivan Steele, Ernest L. Wellons and Philip Worrell.
