He was the first son and third child born to Lee and Maggie Vann on June 23. 1942 in Gates, North Carolina. As a graduate of Central High School in 1960, Nathaniel proved himself an intelligent and athletic student. He continued in his educational pursuits by attending North Carolina Central University where he obtained a B.A. Degree in Biology and General Science in 1964. Nathaniel enjoyed family life, church life and community involvement. As a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Washington, D.C., he served on the Stewardship Committee, Administrative Board, United Methodist Men and Usher Board, He loved to read the Bible, esp. Matt. 11:28-30, Prov. 3:5,6 and Jer. 29:11. His community involvement was never ending. Nathaniel had four children, his daughter Natalie Marlo Vann, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory: a wife, Venattia Williams Vann; three sons, Norman, Nathan and Bryon; one granddaughter, Lakia Janee; his parents, Lee and Maggie Vann; three sisters, Mary (Vann) Ervin, Audrey (Vann) Eure, Cherry (Vann) Riddick; two brothers, Thessalonians L. Vann and Mitchell R. Vann; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Additional Comments: Nathaniel would want us all to keep our heads high and our hearts light. He would say, "Carry the light steadily higher. Be strong and never give up."
