Robert Blanchard, September 24, 1870 State of North Carolina Gates County, September 24, 1870: I Robert Blanchard being of sound mind though in bad health make and publish the following to be my last Will and Testament revoking all others by me made. To wit after my death I wish my wife to occupy and possess the farm I now live on during her life. After her death I give to my son Robert Henry Blanchard Thirty five acres of the farm which thirty five acres is to include all my houses lot and garden to him and his heirs forever to my daughter Emaline I. Blanchard I give eighteen acres adjoining the land of my son Robert to her and her heirs forever to my two daughters Elizabeth S and Lucy Ann Blanchard I give the balance of my land to be equally divided between them and their heirs forever. Should either of above named children die without children I wish the land left then to be divided between the living ones equally: I wish my wife to Keep and retain the use of all my household and Kitchen furniture till her death should either of my children leave her before her death by becoming of age or by getting married it is my wish that my wife deliver to each of them a bed, Stead? and furniture for one bed to them and their heirs forever, to my Son Robert Henry Blanchard, I leave my gun and all my carpenter tools to be kept by my wife Penelope till he arrives to the age of twenty one years when I wish my wife Penelope to deliver said gun and tools to my son Robert H. Blanchard : my old filly named Jumar I wish my wife to Keep and use till her death then to all my children equally . Should I die or at any time leaving ­a crop I wish my wife to use it for the benefit of the family also she is (to?) keep all my cattle and stock of all sorts for the use of the family after the death of my beloved wife I give what may remain of them and their _____[illeg.] to my four children Robert H , Emaline J. , Elizabeth S. and Lucy Ann Blanchard and their heirs forever after the death of my wife. I wish my daughter Emaline J Blanchard to have the smallest chest and fifteen dollars in cash to be paid her whenever she marries or arrives to the age of twenty one years by the person who I shall hereafter appoint so to do. To my daughter Elisabeth S. Blanchard my largest chest and fifteen dollars on the same conditions that is to say whenever she marries or arrives to the age of twenty one. To Lucy Ann Blanchard one trunk and fifteen dollars to be paid her whenever she marries or arrives to the age of twenty one: my colt I wish my wife to keep and retain till my son Robert H. Blanchard arrives to the age of twenty one years then to him and his heirs forever. I make and appoint my beloved wife Penelope Blanchard Executrix to this my last will and testament and do declare that she is empowered by me carry out all and any of its provisions without having to give any bond or security for so doing having the most unlimited?
