Will of James Brady June 22, 1791, Gates County, NC In the name of God Amen. I James Brady of Gates County and in the State of North Carolina am at this time weak of body but of perfect mind and memory and calling to mind the uncarnty of this life do think fit and proper to make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following First it is my will that all myjust debts and funeral charges be paid and discharged, and for the rest of my worldly goods I give as followeth. Item I give unto my son Lewis Brady two negros by name Ben & Miles to him and his heirs forever. Item I giveto my daughter Ruth Phillips one negro man name Edy and one boy name Sam allready in her possession also one negro boy name david and one negro garl name Lusey to her and her heirs forever Item I give to my son James Brady the plantation whereon he now lives on and all the land belonging to the same also three negros name Hary, Jethro, and Milley I say the land and negro and mill to my son James Brady to him and his heirs forever. Item I leave the use of all my houses and half the land belonging to the plantation whereon I now live and my brandy still to my beloved wife Mary Brady during her natural life or widowhood Item I give to my son Joseph Brady the other half of my plantation whereon I now live and half of my orchard and half the land belonging to the same also three negros by name Jacob, Kader and Prisilla I say the land and negros mentioned to my son Joseph Brady to him and his heirs forever. Also I give my son Joseph Brady all the land I hold in Rogers pocosen to him and his heirs forever. Also I give my son Joseph Brady after my beloved wife's death or widowhood the land and plantation and still as above left my beloved wife I say to my son Joseph Brady to him and his heirs forever. Item I give to my daughter Mary Sears three negros by name Sam, Sally and Jack I say to my daughter Mary Sears to her and her heirs forever. Item I give to my grandson Luten Brady son of John Brady deceased all my land and plantation on the nothside of the folley branch to him ans his heirs forever Item I give to my grandson John Brady son of John Brady deceased all my land and plantation on the southside of the folley branch to him and his heirs forever Item I give to my two grandsons Luten Brady and JOhn Brady sons of John Brady deceased two negros by name Stephen and Lettis to be equally divided between them when they come of the age of twenty one years to them and their heirs forever. Item I give to my grandson Dred Sears fifty acres of land as I hold in the Fort Island and one negro name Cilas, one feather bed and furniture and fifty spanish mild dollars and if he should chance to die before he arrives to the age of twentyone years it is my desire that the property that I give to my grandson should be equally divided between my five children Lewis, Ruth, James, Joseph and Mary to them and their heirsforever, and if the said Dred Sears arrive to the age of twenty one years I give the property to Dred Sears before mentioned to him and his heirs forever. Item I leave to my beloved wife Mary Brady the use of two of two horses by name Deick and John my young yoak of oxen, sixteen hed of cattle, eight hed of sheep, four sows and pigs and thirty head of hogs all of her own charge also six negros by name Tom, Peter, Venas, Peg, Hannah and Leah and all my household furniture and plantation utenchals and eighty spanish mild dollars I say to my beloved wife Mary Brady during her natural life or widowhood. Item It is my will and desire that stock and money that I have not left to my beloved wife should be equally divided between my children Lewis, Ruth, James, Joseph Mary and my two gransons to draw one shear Luton and John I say to them and their heirs forever. It is my will and desire that all the estate that I left to my beloved wife as I heant given away after her death ow widowhood to be equally divided between my children Lewis Brady, Ruth Phillips, James Brady, Joseph Brady, Mary Sears and my two grandsons Luten Brady and John Brady to draw one shear I say to them and their heirs forever. I also nominate and appoint my son James Brady and William Goodman my hole and sole executors of this my last will and testament revoking and disanuling and making void all other former wills and testaments by me make or cause to be made as witness my hand and seal this twenty second day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety one.
