Gates County, NC - Will of Jesse Eason, 1788 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last Will and Testament of Jesse Eason In the Name of God Amen this 29th day of December 1781 I Jesse Eason of County of Gates in the State of North Carolina being aged and Infirm but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God: Therefore Calling to mind the mortality of my Body & Knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament and that is to say prinsipply and first of all I give and Commend my Soul into the Hand of God and give it and my Body to be buried in a Christian Burial at the Discresion of my Executor not doubting but I shall leave the same agin by the might Power of God that gave it and such Worldy Estate where with it hath pleased God to in this life. I demise and dispose of the same in following and manner and form. Imprimus I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Christian Jones and her husband James Jones that Tract of Land and Plantation whereon he now lives Contained in Several Deeds of Sale patent and new grants with aright of Willing it to any one or more of his Children and shall or may seem Right to Him to them and their Heirs forever. Item I give and Bequeath unto my Son Alexander Eason that Tract of Land and Plantation whereon he now lives in the mouth of a branch near the high bridge crossing the mill swamp then up the branch to the north then by a straight line to a large spruce pine marked in Benjamin Gordon’s line then up his line to Millers Line to the patent line then along the patent line to the first station 113 acres and likewise on third parts of a swamp pattent beginning at a dead pine and red oak Jacob Gordon and Seth Eason Corner Tree then along Seth Eason Line as many Pole, and the same number of poles on the Easte Line as will make the Compliments of one Hundred and Eighty one Acres to him and His heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Hagerty a parcel of tract of land beginning in Alexander Easons Line in the Branch in the Mill Swamp then down the Mill Swamp to the next big flat branch then up the Branch to a spruce pine standing in the Branch in the part then north west to Benjamin Gordons Line then along his line to Alexander Easons Line then along this Line to the first station and the third part of a swamp Pattent beginning in Seth Easons Line and Alexander Easons Line then runing along Seth Easons Line to the White oak standing in the line at the vineyard Point thence down the run to the Desert then to the back line for the compliments of one hundred and eighty one acres. Likewise. I give unto the said Elizabeth Hagerty one Nego Girl Peniah, one bed and furniture and three cows & calfs to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Jane Eason my Negro Woman Hannah one bead and furniture Three cows and calfs to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Jesse Eason my Plantation whereon I now Live and all Lands not before mentioned. And the other third part of the swamp pattent lying and joing Joshua Smalls Line one hundred and eighty one acres together with my cornfield hede in the Desert called Pasquatank Ridge and three Negro boys Mingo, Reuben, and Ben, one bed and furniture, three cows and calfs to him and his heir forever. I likewise give my Brandy still to my son Jesse Eason to him and his heirs forever. Item I leave all the rest of my estate of what kind or nature so ever to be sold for the payments of my just Debt and the remaining part to be equally divided between all my children to wit, Christian Jones, Alexander Eason, Elizabeth Hagerty, Jane Eason, and Jesse Eason to them and their heirs forever. Lastly I appoint Alexander Eason and James Jones Executors to this my Last Will and Testament in Witness hereunto Ifixed my Seal and Set my hand in Presence of us Jesse Eason (seal) As it is known to all men by the presants that whereas I Jesse Eason of Gates County have made and delivered my Last Will and Testament in Writing bearing date December 29th 1787. Be it known to all men by these presants that whereas I Jesse Eason of Gates County have made and delivered my Last Will and Testament in writing bearing date December 29th, 1787 I the said Jesse Eason by this presant conduct do satisfy and confirm my Last Will and Testament and do give and bequeath unto my son Alexander Eason my broken mill with all the running gear and all the other utensils thereto belonging to her with two acres of land at the north end of the dam with all the right of my Fathers Will to the said mill and dam and swamp and all other privileges there unto belonging to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane my riding horse called Sterling and a young white yoak of oxen to here and her heirs forever. And my will and meaning is that this ? or ? be and be and be adjudged to be part of parcel of my Last Will and Testament and that all things herein mentioned and contained be faithfully and truly performed as full and as amply in every respect as if the same were so declared and set down in my said Last Will and Testament.
