I William Gatling of Gates County in the Province of North Carolina being in perfect sence and memory. I do make this my Last Will and Testament. First, I give and Recomend my Soul to God that Gave it and my Body I Comit to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian Like manner and I am in hopes of A Joyfull Resurection and my Worldly Estate I Give and Dispose of in the following maner and form. Item. I Give to my Son John Gatling my Plantation Where on I now Live and the Land Belonging to it to him my Sd Son and his heirs for Ever. Item. I Give to my Son John Gatling one Negro man Named Ned and my Riding Creature Bridle and Sadle to him and his heirs for Ever. Item. I give to my Son William Gatling the plantation and Seventy three Acres of Land Where on he now Lives to him my Sd. Son and his heirs for Ever. Item. I Give to my Son Edward Gatling one Negro Boy Named Abrum and one Negro Boy named Mingo to him my Sd. Son and his heirs for Ever. Item. I Give to my Grand Son Edward Gatling, Son of John Gatling one negro Girl Named Sarah and one Negro Girl named Agatha and one Negro boy Named Arthur to him my Sd. Grandson Edward Gatling and his heirs for Ever. Item. I give to my Daughter Mary Waters one Negro man named Ben to her my Sd. Daughter and her heirs for Ever. Item. I Lend to my Wife one negro Girl Named Venus(?) During her naturiel Life and after her decease I Give the Sd. Venus(?) to my Grandson Miles Gatling, Son of John Gatling. Item. I Give to my Son George Gatling two Cows and two Calfs. Item. I Give to my Daughter Sarah Winborn Twenty Shillings Curant money. And all the Remainder part of my Estate that is not Given I Leave to be Equally Devided amongst all my Children and my Wife. Lastly I make and Apoint John Gatling and William Gatling, my two Sons, my Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. In Witness where of I have hearunto Set my hand and Seal This twenty Sixth Day of April in the year of our Lord Christ one Thousand Seven hundred Eighty and Eight. The above Within Will was exhibited into Court by John Gatling, one of the Executors therein appointed and was proved by the oaths of Joseph Speight & Henry Speight two of the Subscribing witnesses thereto and then the said Will was ordered to be Recorded. At the same time the said Executors came into Court and qualified themselves for that office and prayed an order for Letters Testamentary therein. Which was accordingly granted. Test. Law Baker C. C.
