Will of Elizabeth KITTRELL

Gates Co. Will Book 2, pp. 196-197, verbatim transcription from xerographic 
copy obtained from the Gates County Clerk of Superior Court. [Surnames have 
been capitalized.] 
 
In the name of God Amen. I Elizabeth KITTRELL of the State of North Carolina
and County of Gates being of sound and perfect mind and memory (Blessed be 
God) do this fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand 
Eight Hundred and Twenty Three make and Publish This my last Will and 
Testament in manner following, that is to say-
 
First.  I Give and bequath [sic] to my Son George KITTRELL one painted 
Beaufat, to him and his heirs forever
 
I Give my Daughter Elizabeth FIELDS the sum of Five Dollars to be raised 
out of my estate to Her and Her Heirs forever.
 
I Give to my Grandson Enos SCARBROUGH the sum of one hundred Dollars also 
to be raised out of my estate to him and his hers [sic] forever
 
I Give to my Grand Daughter Elizabeth WILLIAMS Fifty dollars to be raised 
out of my estate as mentioned above to her & her heirs forever
 
I Give to my Grandson William MOORE my sorrell mare to him and his heirs 
forever.
 
The Balance of my estate I leave to be sold, and after paying all my Just 
debts to be equally divided among my following children Viz. Mary WILLEY 
George KITTRELL and the Heirs of my deceased son William KITTRELL to have 
the same share that he would have had and the Heirs of my two deceased 
Daughters Sarah WILLIAMS and Charity WILLIAMS to have the Same share which 
they would have been entitled to had they been living.
 
And I hereby make and Ordain my son George KITTRELL Executor of this my 
last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said Elizabeth KITTRELL 
have to this my last will and Testament set my hand and seal the day and 
year above written.
 
Signed, Sealed, published and declared by the said Elizabeth KITTRELL the 
Testatrix as her last will & Testament in the presence of us, who were 
present at the time of signing and sealing thereof

Court by George KITTRELL the Exor. therein appointed & was duly proved by 
the oaths of Demsey [sic] S GOODMAN & Wm. CLEAVES the subscribing 
witnessess thereto & Ordered to be recorded. at the same the [sic] said 
Exor. was duly qualifed for office & prayed letters Testamentary &c  Test
