Gates County, NC - Will of John Parker, 1825 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ John Parker's Will In the name of God amen. I John Parker of the county of Gates in State of North Carolina being weak in body but of Sound and perfect mind and memory Blessed be almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and Testament. First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Levina Parker all the cleared land tenaments buildings and as much as she may think proper to clear of the wood land untill the children become of age, all the above mentioned land she is to hold untill her death or in case of her marriage again the above mentioned property is to be returned to my sons, she has full power to sell lightwood & etc. to assist her in supporting of my children and herself the children to be schooled if can be done with convenience, my black man Jack to remain with my wife untill her death or marriage if the said black man is alive then to belong to my youngest daughter Martha of all my movable property when sold to be divided equally between my daughters Nancy and Martha, Nancy receiving fifty dollars more as an equivalent for the black man. I bequeath unto my oldest son Isack Parker all that piece or parcel of land commencing at the old mill branch Joining Elisha Robinsons line in a direct course to manings ridge keeping the ridge unto the back line with all the high land on the north side of the Boare swamp. To my youngest son Nathaniel Parker I bequeath the land south of the Boare swamp the swamp included the landing and Juniper Pecosin with all the Buildings thereon. In case of one of their deaths without an heir the other takes the whole if both of them then it is to be divided between the girls. I Bequeath unto my son in law John Cleaves my land pattent in Western Country if he will go to it if not to be given to Isack & Nathaniel my sons has not power to sell any of the above mentioned land untill they are thirty years of age. hereby revoking all other wills by made In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the 4th day of January eighteen hundred and twenty five. Signed sealed published and declared by the above John Parker to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the testator. Hoffler, Jurat State of North Carolina, Gates County February County Court of Pleas &c 1825 The last will and Testament of John Parker dec'd was exhibited into Court by William Hinton and David Parker and was proved by the oath of Garrett Hoffler and ordered to be recorded and on motion ordered that the said William Hinton and David Parker administer on the said estate of the dec'd with the will annexed, that they give bond and Security in the sum of five thousand pounds, the said administrators was duly qualified for that Office & etc..
